Your Cabinet Installation Timeline: What to Expect

Every project is different, but most fall into one of three categories.

You’re finally doing it!

The big remodel. The custom home build. Or maybe just that perfect cabinet addition you’ve been thinking about for years.

Exciting, right?

But between that first design sketch and the moment your custom cabinets are installed, there’s a timeline. And here at Prestige Woodworks, we believe in being completely transparent about what that process looks like.

Think of our timeline as a two-way street. We are committed to efficient, high-quality craftsmanship, but the pace of your project is heavily influenced by how quickly we receive information from you, whether you’re the homeowner, contractor, or designer.

Our project manager will send out clear deadlines for design decisions and approvals. As long as we get the green light when we ask for it, we stay closely aligned with the timeline. However, if critical information is delayed, we simply can't move forward as planned.

It's a team effort!

Whole Home Cabinet Projects

Timeline Goal: About 12 weeks from the first design meeting to installation.

Building cabinetry for an entire home involves many moving parts. This timeline accounts for the additional complexity of larger projects and the number of decisions required during the design phase.

Building a large home involves a lot of moving parts (and cabinets!). This timeline accounts for the increased design complexity and the many decisions required.

Design Phase (Approx. 6 Weeks)

We schedule three in-depth design meetings, typically spaced about two weeks apart.

During this stage, we finalize:

  • Cabinet layouts

  • Door styles and finishes

  • Appliance specifications

  • Storage solutions and functionality

* Important: This timeline works best when design decisions are made consistently, and any requested information is provided between meetings.

Sign-Off & Build Preparation (2–4 Weeks)

Once the design is finalized and approved, we begin preparing for production.

This stage includes:

  • Ordering wood materials

  • Ordering hardware and specialty components

  • Scheduling the build within our production calendar

Material lead times are factored into this phase.

Cabinet Construction & Delivery (1–2 Weeks)

After materials arrive, our craftsmen begin building your cabinets.

During this phase, we:

  • Construct the cabinetry

  • Apply finishes

  • Prepare pieces for delivery and installation

Kitchen Remodels & Medium Projects

Timeline Goal: About 8–10 weeks from first design meeting to installation.

Kitchen remodels usually involve fewer cabinets than full home projects, allowing for a slightly faster process while still maintaining thoughtful design planning.

Design Phase (2–4 Weeks)

Most remodels require one or two focused design meetings spaced about two weeks apart.

This phase focuses on:

  • Cabinet layout updates

  • Storage functionality improvements

  • Finish and hardware selections

Sign-Off & Build Prep (2–4 Weeks)

Once approved, we begin:

  • Ordering materials

  • Preparing production schedules

  • Coordinating delivery timing

Small Cabinet Projects & Add-Ons

Timeline Goal: About 5–6 weeks from design meeting to installation.

Smaller projects typically include:

  • Bathroom vanities

  • Built-in cabinetry

  • Mudroom storage

  • Single cabinet additions

Because these projects involve fewer cabinets and less coordination with other trades, they move through the process faster.

Design Phase (1–2 Weeks)

Most smaller projects require a single design meeting to finalize layout and materials.

Sign-Off & Build Prep (2–4 Weeks)

Materials are ordered, and production is scheduled.

Cabinet Construction & Delivery (Several Days to 1 Week)

Once materials arrive, the cabinetry is built and delivered for installation.

The X-Factor: Custom & Special-Order Materials

The Fastest Timeline = Simple Desires and Quick Decisions.

Most custom elements - including specialty cabinet sizes or unique configurations - are engineered during the initial design phase and fall within the timelines listed above.

* A Critical Warning about Specialty Items *

Items that need to be specially ordered can sometimes push our timeline. This is completely dependent on the supplier's availability and shipping logistics.

Example: Hardware Backorders

If a specific handle or hardware finish is on backorder, it could take 8–10 additional weeks to arrive.

Example: Specialty Materials

Unique materials such as:

  • Custom mesh inserts

  • Specialty glass panels

  • Imported hardware

Can sometimes take 4–6 months to source and receive.

Pro Tip: Decide on Custom Items Early

Action Item for You:

If you are considering a custom item, please ask us about its availability during the design process! If a custom piece has a long lead time, deciding on it early in the process is essential.

Early decisions allow us to:

  • Order specialty materials immediately

  • Prevent unexpected delays

  • Keep your cabinet installation on schedule

Communication Keeps Projects on Schedule

Ultimately, custom cabinet timelines depend on clear communication between homeowners, contractors, designers, and our team at Prestige Woodworks.

Our project manager will provide deadlines for design approvals and key decisions throughout the process. When we receive the information we need on time, we can confidently keep your project moving forward.

If approvals or information are delayed, production timelines may shift accordingly. Custom cabinetry is a collaborative process - and when everyone stays aligned, the result is a kitchen or home that comes together beautifully.
